Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone is demanding that the state Legislature investigate Suffolk Off-Track Betting’s $120 million purchase of a popular casino from a company with close ties to Gov. Hochul.
The regional OTB corporation paid the big bucks to Delaware North to own and manage Jake’s 58 Hotel and Casino in Islandia in May. Hochul’s husband, William, is a senior vice president and general counsel at the Buffalo-based firm.
In a letter sent Friday to Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, Bellone (D) accused Suffolk OTB of avoiding public scrutiny by refusing to turn over copies of its contract to buy the casino.
“Now without the oversight and management of a professional casino operator, Jake’s 58 Hotel and Casino . . . is poised to become one of the largest political patronage operations in the state, if not the country,” Bellone wrote.
